Abilites Expo LA 2017

This past weekend the EmuWest team made it up to Los Angeles to check out the annual Abilities Expo. For those of you who aren't familiar with the event, it's a three day convention showcasing the latest and greatest in products and services for those with limited mobility and disability. We hopped on the Emu Trike and jammed around the floor checking out vendors and just meeting some of the great people that organized and attended the expo.

In fact, my favorite aspect of the event were the people. Having attended many trade shows and conventions across a broad array of industries ranging from tech, to financial services, to venture capital and now disability enablement I have never experienced a more welcoming environment. The event was nothing like the cutthroat network-or-die environments that I have unfortunately been a part of in the past. It was more like a community gathering where everyone had a common mission: to help, support and enable those who need it most. It was incredibly refreshing and a wonderful experience.

My favorite vendors had to be those who provided modified vehicles for those in wheelchairs or powerchairs. One that stood out to me was BraunAbility. They had some amazing retrofitted automobiles designed specifically for various levels of accessibility. Everything from a sleek Chrysler Pacifica to a Ford Explorer wrapped in carbon fiber all fully retrofitted for easy access and driver's hand control. the level of workmanship was truly impressive.

Another vendor that had a presence and is making an impact in the world of mobility enablement was Project Walk. Project Walk is a leader in the recovery space for paralysis, spinal cord injury and neurodegenerative disorders. We're lucky enough to have the Project Walk headquarters just up the road in Carlsbad, CA. If you have never heard of them, check out their website. Having been through a vast array of physical therapy and personal training experiences, I can say with confidence that the team at Project Walk is second to none. Their process is a prescribed methodology designed to help individuals re-learn to walk and each program is tailored to the individual at-hand. They are making huge strides towards helping people become more mobile and the results speak for themselves.

On a closing note, I'd like to thank everyone who came up to us and expressed interest in the Emu Trike. The reception we felt was fantastic and I'd love to help each and every person we met have a new experience with the Emu. Whether it be traveling, having a conversation at eye-level, or simply wanting to have more fun on a mobility scooter we're on board. I hope to see you all at the next event and until then, keep mobilizing!
